Spectroscopy Suite is a suite of three programs, "IR Tutorial",
"MS Tutorial" and "NMR Tutorial" with an integrated help file / glossary of terms.
- The IR Tutorial introduces spectroscopy and electromagnetic radiation; describes the "balls-on-springs"
treatment of vibrations; explains of IR-active and IR-inactive vibrational modes; contains animated examples of vibrational
modes; describes sample preparation; and contains an IR correlation table.
- The MS Tutorial contains an introduction to mass spectrometry;
descriptions and rules of fragmentation; information available from mass
spectra; a simulation of a mass spectrometer with six unknown compounds;
and a correlation table of fragments.
- The NMR Tutorial forms an introduction to nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It also
contains simple descriptions of nuclear spin, and why some nuclei spin and others do not;
the effects of electrons on nuclear spin; examples of peak splitting; and
a description of the spectrometer, including the probe, the magnet and the sample.
