Communications
Communicating Electronically

If you have never communicated using a computer before, then it is very likely that you will begin to do so now in the course of your studies.

Here, we would like to give you some pointers about communicating electronically to help you in using this new medium. This is not a guide to searching the Internet, nor a user's manual for your e-mail software.

Instead, we would like to suggest some ways to help you use electronic methods of communication to your best advantage.

Are you a newcomer to the Web?

The fact that you are reading this page means that you must have found access to the Internet and World Wide Web somewhere! However, if you have not yet connected to the UniS campus network to use e-mail and the web here, you can find a number of sources of help.

Computing Services, who are in the Austin Pearce Building, provide Student Support Services. They have a number of helpsheets on various topics - Getting Started will help you to log in for the first time and begin to use e-mail. Help is also available on their Student Support website.

Student Support will be running lunchtime log-in sessions for students during the first three weeks of the semester. Basic IT Skills training courses will also be taking place during the semester. You can find details of these in Computing Services, or on the Courses page of their website.

Once you've got started on Internet, you might find some of the links on our References pages useful in guiding you around.
