Improving Own Learning and Performance
How to Improve Your Own Learning

The purpose of this pack is to provide you with a framework and focus for:

  • identifying and planning skills development
  • recording your progress

What is important is for you to be able to reflect on and learn from your experiences. While at university, you will be exposed to a wide variety of learning experiences and it is particularly important to spend time on reflection. This could involve some or all of the following: discussing, thinking, observing, reading, listening.

The activities in the booklet and on the website are designed to encourage you to think about yourself, what you are good at, what you enjoy and why. Much of the detail you provide in this pack is personal to you. You may find it useful to talk it through with your personal tutor or friends, but this is not a requirement. This pack is about you, it belongs to you, you decide how to use it.

The first section is a Personal Skills Audit - we would like you to complete this to diagnose your current skills level. This will give you a good idea of your strengths and weaknesses and help you to identify any development needs. You could also set targets for improving skills areas.
