Information for new students
The SPLASH team is here to support all students, but particularly who are just starting at university.
We have put together some new resources that will give you some useful tips on how to get settled in quickly and start studying effectively.
Firstly, we've put together a series of podcasts consisting of current students talking about their own experiences of studying at Surrey. There are five of these podcasts and they will be made available during September. You can either subscribe so that you receive these automatically, or you can just access them online. Simply go to the settling-in podcast homepage.
We have also asked some academic staff to give us their take on what they expect from students' first assignments, as this is one thing people often struggle with. So far we have videos from staff in Law and Politics, but a lot of what they say is relevant to all students.
SPLASH runs a series of workshops for students at all levels. To see what's available, see our Workshops page.
We also offer one-to-one appointments and drop-in sessions if you want to talk to a student learning advisor.
We also have a series of study skills guides that you can either download from our study skills page or pick up from SPLASH, which is on the third floor of the Library.
Finally, you can also get a copy of a 2010-11 year planner. These are great for improving your time management skills.
