PebblePAD and e-portfolios
An e-portfolio can be defined as an electronic system or online space that:
- enables learners to create and present a record of progress
- enables learners to collate and present materials, possibly for assessment
- facilitates reflection on the process of learning and development
PebblePad is an e-portfolio system that can also be seen as a personal learning space. It has been successfully piloted at the University with 1500 students from across 4 Faculties and plans are in place to move from pilot to full scale service, with PebblePad being available to all staff and students from January 2010
PebblePAD features
PebblePAD contains a range of tools, materials and resources designed to help users perform a variety of tasks. These include:
- a facility to gather together documents/materials/assets for presentational purposes
- feedback and collaboration mechanisms
- personal journals
- a blog
- diagnostic tools
The system can be characterised as being owned by the user or learner-centred in that the user has control over how the information is presented and with whom it is shared .
How is PebblePAD being used at Surrey?
The reflective structure of PebblePAD makes it an ideal tool to support Personal Development Planning (PDP) processes but it can also be used in the assessment process for a programme or module or to support collaborative learning. If you are interested in using PebblePad, please contact Helen Sterne (h.sterne@surrey.ac.uk ) in the first instance.
