We all have personal preferences for different colours, but research has shown that there are some colours (e.g., blues) that are commonly liked and that there are other colours (eg., dark yellow) that are commonly disliked. These patterns of preference appear to be common to many different cultures. The Baby Lab’s current study aims to find out whether babies are drawn more to colours that are commonly liked by adults. Babies are shown pairs of colours on a computer monitor and their pattern of looking is recorded with a special camera. We then see whether babies look longer at the colours that are preferred by adults. The study aims to increase our understanding of how babies see and interact with the world, and also aims to further understand the origins of colour preference.
Would you like to know which colour your baby prefers?
