The School is organised to support multidisciplinary research by linking the activities of many young and active members of staff in Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. Internationally renowned research programmes contribute to the School's research strength in the areas of

The research centres provide state-of-the-art experimental and computational facilities shared by academics drawn from a large multi-disciplinary base. Many of the large project consortia also involve extensive collaborative networks both within and outside the University. The current research grants portfolio of the School comprises a substantial funding element under several specially directed programmes of the EU and UK Research Councils. The Centres are also keen to forge and develop further innovative links with the local SME's and larger UK based multi-national companies.

A wide spectrum of research degrees (Ph.D, M.Phil, Eng.D) are on offer under a highly versatile framework comprising full-time, part-time, industrial and collaborative options.
