Select list of robotics and vision WWW sites

Updated: August 1998

This is a select list of the WWW sites around the world which have information related to the work of the MSRR Group. In no way is this meant to be a complete list of all robotics sites - the nearest thing you will get to this resides on the Robotics Internet Resource Page run by the Laboratory for Perceptual Robotics at the University of Massachusetts, and it is huge.

Stereo Vision and Stereo Robot Head Pages

The Grasp Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania have compiled a list of stereo vision robot heads.

Image Processing and Computer Vision

We use Datacube pipeline image processing hardware a lot in the group.Check out Jim Vallino's Datacube Jungle Page which includes a users guide to the MV200 and some example ImageFlow programs.

Non-destructive testing (NDT)

The Centre for Nondestructive Testing at Iowa State University have a comprehensive web page with links to other main sites

There is a Usenet newsgroup ( sci.techniques.testing.nondestructive) on NDT which is archived here

Perhaps the most comprehensive ultrasonic testing pages on the WWW is Rolf Diedrich's excellent on-line ultrasonic testing journal.

Augmented reality, telepresence and virtual worlds

There are several sites giving listings of VR-related work - a fairly comprehensive one can be found at here at the Human Interface Technology Laboratory at the University of Washington.

There is also a Usenet newsgroup ( sci.virtual-worlds) which seems to deal with all matters relating to VR, AR, telepresence, job offers, etc.

In the UK, the Computational Imaging Science Group at UMDS, the United Medical & Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, in London are doing similar work to us in the field of stereo overlays for augmented reality. Their home page is here

Some of the most interesting (and well known) pages on AR on the WWW include those of Jim Vallino's, those at the ETC-Lab at the University of Toronto ( David Drascic's group) and those at the University of North Carolina (UNC).

Finally, we have close links with the VR systems company Virtual Presence who deserve some free advertising here (in the hope of a hefty discount next time).
