Don't let your English let you down!

Opening quotation marks Law students have benefited enormously from the English support and other courses provided in the University. Some students have taken the opportunity to study creative writing as an interest, others have taken courses that have helped them express themselves in writing more clearly and helped them develop skills in developing arguments: both have lead directly to improved marks in law modules. Opening quotation marks My choice of University was based on the fact that the University of Surrey holds an enviable reputation for its Law degree and the standards of research and teaching within the law faculty are exceptional. It also has a good international mix of students and provides a good environment for students from many different backgrounds. Closing quotation marks

Study Law in the UK

Photo of students

A law degree commands status, prestige, employment and promotion prospects and it often has a good or even large income attached to it. Studying law in England is a life experience rather than simply gaining a law degree. Your English language skills will improve beyond all recognition. The world is becoming a global village and English is the language of communication. Thus, a degree from the United Kingdom means that you have an international work passport allowing you to communicate, negotiate and transact on behalf of clients, no matter where they are located. A law degree from Britain sets you on the right career path to fulfil those requirements as well as your personal ambitions. Furthermore the United Kingdom's membership of the European Union and its active involvement in the international community means that the study of law involves opportunities to study not just the law as it applies in England and Wales but also to study international legal subjects.

We welcome non-UK students for the fresh insights which you bring and will do our best to help you. At UniS English language courses are offered free of charge to full-time overseas students guiding them through intensive programmes of study skills, essay writing techniques, reading and research methods, listening and note taking, seminar skills and more. All full-time overseas students are guaranteed University accommodation throughout the normal duration of a programme. The University provides first class resources and a friendly and caring environment for its international community of students.

British qualifications are recognised and respected around the world. Their reputation is such that, when you return home, you'll find that your British Qualification boosts your career and salary prospects. The UK is a cosmopolitan place to live. Many thousands of families from around the world have made the UK their home, creating a richly diverse, open-minded, multicultural society. There are also more than a quarter of a million international students in the UK at any one time.

Thousands of scholarships and bursaries are offered by UK institutions just for international students, while more than 21, 000 international students receive scholarship funding from the UK Government every year. Under existing work regulations, international students in the UK can work up to 20 hours a week when studying and full time during vacations. View the British Council's website for bursaries.

Student Life

Guildford

The University of Surrey is situated in Guildford, which is the county town of Surrey, some 35 minutes south west of London by train. Being so close to London allows students to take full advantage of everything the capital has to offer, whilst living in a safe and relaxed environment.

Photo of views around campus and Guildford

The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside, ranging from chalk downlands to wooded hills and heaths. Its cobbled High Street, old buildings and medieval castle ruins testify to a crowded historical past, but it is also a thriving modern centre with comprehensive shopping facilities.

The River Wey runs through the town with the prestigious Yvonne Arnaud theatre, which previews many West End plays, on its banks. The Civic Hall offers a range of concerts and entertainments, and the new Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre contains a vast range of facilities including a bowling alley and Olympic-sized ice rink.

Guildford is also ideally situated for visiting some of the most beautiful places in the south of England like Hampton Court, Windsor and Winchester, among others.
