Swine Flu Travel Advice for Students and Staff

The advice we have received, which applies to all students and staff travelling on University business, is as follows:

For all travel that has been booked to date, we are advised by our insurers that all staff and students should continue to follow the advice of the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office regarding proposed journeys, ensure a complete a full risk assessment is undertaken, leave contact information with your relevant department and take all possible health precautions.

For all proposed travel, if staff are travelling to an area which has no FCO alerts in place then a risk assessment should be passed to the line manager for consideration and if approved, the same considerations as above apply. For Guidance please see UCEA link below. Anyone intending to travel to an affected area to take extra caution and keep up to date with latest developments. If travel is booked where there is full knowledge that there was FCO advice against travel to a particular country then a claim for cancellation will not be considered by the insurers. Those thinking of travelling to above areas must also contact the Insurance Officer on ext 9008.

If you have recently travelled from any affected area and are experiencing flu-like symptoms, you must stay at home to limit contact with others, and seek medical advice from the University Health Centre on 08444 773 051. You can also contact NHS direct on: 0845 46 47.
